Come and have fun and make a difference!
Welcome to Single Volunteers of Greater Denver (SVGD)! We are an all-volunteer, not-for-profit group of energetic singles who want to meet others through community service. Our objective is to fulfill the volunteer needs of non-profit organizations in the Denver area while having fun and meeting people.
So… if you’ve tried the trendy and impersonal, and ready for something genuine and fun that helps others…try SVGD!
SVGD is one of 28 chapters of Single Volunteers, which was started in Vermont in 1996. The national corporation, based in Washington D.C., provides guidance, information, and a framework under which the chapters operate.
A Single Person Can Make a Difference
While walking down the beach, a man saw someone in the distance leaning down, picking something up and throwing it in the ocean. As he came coser, he saw thousands of starfish the tide had thrown onto the beach. Unable to return to the ocean during low tide, the starfish were dying. He observed a young boy pikcking up the starfish one by one and throwing them back into the ocean. After watching the seeminly futile effort, the observer said, “There must be thousands of starfish on the beach. It would be impossible for you to save all of them. There are simply too many. You can’t possibly save enough to make a difference.” The young boy smiled as he picked up another starfish and tossed it back into the ocean.
“Made a difference to that one,” he replied.
