SUMMARY:Used Book Sale benefiting the Denver Public Library Friends Foundation!
DESCRIPTION:Denver Public Library Friends Foundation Used Book Sale\, Sat. June 8th\, 10:30AM-2:30PM\, 6 volunteers are needed. (This event is on Waiting List status.  If you register you will receive the automated responses but will only be contacted with the details if there is a volunteer cancellation).  This event is being held at the Historic Elitch Garden Theatre.  Our volunteers will be helping with cash\, credit cards\, & the book sales tally at the check-out area.  This sale will have over 18\,000 books and is their biggest sale in 2024!  Sale proceeds support The Library Fund which supports the areas of greatest need for the Denver libraries.  Since our group will be done mid-afternoon we are planning on doing a volunteer Social afterwards.

SUMMARY:Serving Dinner at the Denver Rescue Mission!
DESCRIPTION:Serving Dinner at the Denver Rescue Mission\, Wed. June 12th\, 4:45-6:30PM\, 5 Volunteers are needed. (This event is now on Waiting List status.  If you register you will receive an automated response but will only be contacted with the details if there is a volunteer cancellation). We will be serving dinner to the homeless in their Downtown facility.  We will be in the kitchen area serving up the plates of food as they come through the dinner line. They do have two free parking areas for the volunteers.  For some of the guests\, the meals they serve at the Mission are the only source of nutrition they receive.  They say that “with each healthy meal comes strength to face the new challenges of each day.”  They serve over 600\,000 meals to the hungry each year.  We have helped them several times before.  The volunteers truly find this to be a worthwhile cause & enjoy the experience!

The event is in Civic Center Park.  In addition to helping the non-profit who gets the majority of the funds we will get paid money towards our fantastic organization so we can continue to operate.  SVGD needs funds annually in order to pay our insurance\, web hosting\, sponsor our MeetUp group for more volunteers\, etc.  We provide volunteers to approx. 60 non-profit events annually but do need to do a couple for us in order to continue providing this great service to the Metro Denver community.  We will be in charge of an alcohol booth\, which we’ve done for several years\, at this fun event with a percentage of the profits going to our organization as long as we provide the number of volunteers they need for the shift!  Since this is a big undertaking & a fundraiser\, non-SVGD members can also register.  We encourage our members to invite friends\, work associates\, and other non-profit associates to participate\, especially since we need so many volunteers for the 4 shifts.  If we don’t provide the number of volunteers to which we commit we don’t get paid!  When you sign up please let us know if you have other persons who could be volunteers and we will contact them or you can give us their info.  We always have a fantastic time!  It’s a colorful event with lots going on! We’re in a three sided booth with a counter and window that looks out at the colorful action.  It’s like watching TV!  What fun!!  PrideFest is the largest annual fundraiser annually for the LGBTQ Community Center of Colorado (The Center)\, a non-profit that serves more than 47\,000 people annually.  Recognized as one of the top ten pride events in the country\, Denver’s PrideFest is a celebration of community\, heritage\, family and culture. They are expecting around 500\,000 people from Colorado and surrounding areas come out to enjoy the parade\, rally\, music\, entertainment\, food and much more.
