SUMMARY:Postal Carriers- Stamp Out Hunger event + social!
DESCRIPTION:Postal Carriers-Stamp Out Hunger\, Sat. May 10\, 3:30-7:30PM\, 6 volunteers needed. (This event is now on Waiting List status.  If you sign up you will receive the automated response but will only be contacted with the details if there is a volunteer cancellation). The National Assn. of Letter Carriers is sponsoring an event throughout our Metro area where they will be picking up food donations along their carrier routes & will be bringing it back to their post offices.  We will be inside the docks at a Post Office (near Pecos/76th) to help unload and sort the food so trucks can take it back to the Action Center where it will be distributed to low-income families.   It is a very worthwhile event that will make quite a difference for low-income families!  After the event we are inviting the volunteers to have a social experience at a BBQ restaurant that is in the adjoining parking lot.  We helped at this event the  last couple years and enjoyed both the event & the social!

SUMMARY:Serving Dinner at The Delores Project Womens Safehouse!
DESCRIPTION:Serving Dinner at the Delores Project Women’s Safehouse\,Wed. April 30th\, 5:30-8 PM\, 6 Volunteers are needed. (This event is on Waiting List status.  If you sign up you will received the automated response but will only be contacted with the details if we have a volunteer cancellation.) This is a fantastic facility that assists homeless women who have been in challenging situations!  We can help bring some joy there while serving dinner & talking to residents as they come through the dinner line!  The food is provided\, we just need to heat it up and serve it to the residents as they come through the line.  In addition to serving the food we will eat dinner towards the end of our shift prior to packing up the food items for storage.  So many of our volunteers request this event!  We have assisted this women’s safe shelter several times through several years and they have asked us back as we have fantastic groups of volunteers. The shelter is in West Denver. This is a confidential location that is given out to the volunteers after registering due to the nature of the facility.  Both male & female volunteers are welcome to assist at this event.

SUMMARY:Clothing Donation Sorting for Jeffco Action Center-2nd time!
DESCRIPTION:Clothing Donation Sorting for Jeffco Action Center\, Sat.\, March 8th\, 9:15AM-12:15PM. (This event is now on Waiting List status.  If you sign up you will receive the automated response but will only be contacted with the details if there is a volunteer cancellation.) 6 Volunteers are needed to help sort the donated clothing for the busy week ahead.  This is our second time helping them at this event this year.  During the week people in need shop with volunteer shoppers in their donation “store” that is set up by sizes and types of clothing just like a regular store.  They are told how many items they can receive at the store and are given a time limit for their shopping. We have helped with this portion of their center’s activities before and really enjoyed the experience!! The Action Center’s mission is to provide an immediate response to basic human needs and promote pathways to self-sufficiency for Jefferson County residents and the homeless.  They are located in Lakewood. We used to assist them but they discontinued their Saturday shifts a few years ago so it’s been over 5 years since we’ve been able to help them with this so I scheduled a shift that filled quickly in February plus this shift as our volunteers want to assist here!  I’m really happy that we are able to assist again as our volunteers always loved this event!
