SUMMARY:School Supply Distribution for Jeffco Action Center!
DESCRIPTION:School Supply Distribution for the Jeffco Action Center\, Sat. Aug 2nd\, 8:30AM-12:45PM\, 6 Volunteers are needed. We will be helping to staff the school supply distribution. We have helped them several times before and always enjoy the experience.  You will make an impact by helping low-income students be prepared and excited to start school. This will help approx. 5000 students in Jefferson County\,  which has the highest number of identified homeless students in Colorado\, over a 6-day distribution period.  We are divided into areas serving different age groups of children. Parents pick up backpacks for their children which are filled with appropriate school supplies.  Many families are having financial problems this year so we will definitely be making a positive difference for these school children!  We are doing a 2-day School Supply Distribution weekend on Saturday & Sunday in two different parts of town!

SUMMARY:Fundraising Beverage Booth- PrideFest 4th Shift!
DESCRIPTION:Fundraising Beverage Booth at PrideFest-4th Shift\, Sun.\, June 29\, 1PM-6:30PM\, 12 Volunteers are needed to run an alcohol booth. The event is in Civic Center Park.  In addition to helping the non-profit who gets the majority of the funds we will get paid money towards our fantastic organization so we can continue to operate.  SVGD needs funds annually in order to pay our insurance\, web hosting\, sponsor our MeetUp group for more volunteers\, etc.  We provide volunteers to approx. 50 non-profit events annually but do need to do a couple for us in order to continue providing this great service to the Metro Denver community.  We will be in charge of an alcohol booth\, which we’ve done for several years\, at this fun event with a percentage of the profits going to our organization as long as we provide the number of volunteers they need for the shift!  Since this is a big undertaking & a fundraiser\, non-SVGD members can also register.  We encourage our members to invite friends\, work associates\, and other non-profit associates to participate\, especially since we need so many volunteers for the 4 shifts.  If we don’t provide the number of volunteers to which we commit we don’t get paid!  When you sign up please let us know if you have other persons who could be volunteers and we will contact them or you can give us their info.  We always have a fantastic time!  It’s a colorful event with lots going on! We’re in a three sided booth with a counter and window that looks out at the colorful action.  It’s like watching TV!  What fun!!  PrideFest is the largest annual fundraiser annually for the LGBTQ Community Center of Colorado (The Center)\, a non-profit that serves more than 47\,000 people annually.  Recognized as one of the top ten pride events in the country\, Denver’s PrideFest is a celebration of community\, heritage\, family and culture. They are expecting around 500\,000 people from Colorado and surrounding areas come out to enjoy the parade\, rally\, music\, entertainment\, food and much more. The Center plays a pivotal role to reduce harassment & discrimination and provides programs & resources needed for the LGBTQ community to live happy\, healthy\, & productive lives.  Please join us as we accomplish two objectives- supporting SVGD financially and supporting this non profit!

SUMMARY:Clothing Donation Sorting for the Jeffco Action Center!
DESCRIPTION:Clothing Donation Sorting for Jeffco Action Center\, Sat.\, June 14th\, 8:45AM-11:30AM. (This event is now on Waiting List status. If you sign up you will receive the automated responses but will only be contacted with the details if we have a volunteer cancellation.) 6 Volunteers are needed to help sort the donated clothing for the busy week ahead. We sort the clothing by size & type\, put the items on hangers\, and then they are hung in the store in the adjoining room. During the week people in need shop with volunteer shoppers in their donation “store” that is set up by sizes and types of clothing just like a regular store.  They are told how many items they can receive at the store and are given a time limit for their shopping. We have helped with this portion of their center’s activities before and really enjoyed the experience!! The Action Center’s mission is to provide an immediate response to basic human needs and promote pathways to self-sufficiency for Jefferson County residents and the homeless.  They are located in Lakewood.  I’m really happy that we are able to assist again as our volunteers always loved this event!

(This event is now on Waiting List status.  If you sign up you will receive the automated response but will only be contacted with the details if there is a volunteer cancellation). The National Assn. of Letter Carriers is sponsoring an event throughout our Metro area where they will be picking up food donations along their carrier routes & will be bringing it back to their post offices.  We will be inside the docks at a Post Office (near Pecos/76th) to help unload and sort the food so trucks can take it back to the Action Center where it will be distributed to low-income families.   It is a very worthwhile event that will make quite a difference for low-income families!  After the event we are inviting the volunteers to have a social experience at a BBQ restaurant that is in the adjoining parking lot.  We helped at this event the  last couple years and enjoyed both the event & the social!

SUMMARY:Clothing Donation Sorting for Jeffco Action Center-2nd time!
DESCRIPTION:Clothing Donation Sorting for Jeffco Action Center\, Sat.\, March 8th\, 9:15AM-12:15PM. (This event is now on Waiting List status.  If you sign up you will receive the automated response but will only be contacted with the details if there is a volunteer cancellation.) 6 Volunteers are needed to help sort the donated clothing for the busy week ahead.  This is our second time helping them at this event this year. We used to assist them but they discontinued their Saturday shifts a few years ago so it’s been over 5 years since we’ve been able to help them with this so I scheduled a shift that filled quickly in February plus this shift as our volunteers want to assist here!  I’m really happy that we are able to assist again as our volunteers always loved this event!
