SUMMARY:Drive-Thru Food Bank at The Act!on Center
DESCRIPTION:Drive-Thru Food Bank at The Act!on Center- Sat.\, Feb. 27- 9AM til Noon- 5 Volunteers are needed. (THIS EVENT IS NOW ON WAITING LIST STATUS. IF YOU SIGN UP YOU WILL RECEIVE THE AUTOMATED RESPONSES CONFIRMING YOUR REGISTRATION BUT YOU WILL ONLY BE CONTACTED WITH THE DETAILS IF THERE IS A VOLUNTEER CANCELLATION.)  We had a great time helping them start their new Saturday program in January! We are going to continue helping them their two Saturdays in February as they get this going. The Action Center normally provides food to about 60 low-income people daily. They normally do that during the week days.  During these COVID-19 crisis days that number has gone up to around 200!  For that reason\, they are starting the Saturday program.  We may be doing a variety of activities such as packing boxes\, sorting food\, loading food into cars\, directing traffic\, etc. They are very careful to be sure the volunteers were safe during this pandemic. We will be working in small groups of volunteers in open areas to accommodate social distancing.  Everyone is required to wear a mask\, disposable gloves will be provided\, they have temperature check stations\, hand sanitizer\, etc.  This is a great way to help our community when so many individuals and families are short on food these days!  The event will be in Lakewood.

SUMMARY:Serving Dinner at The Crossing transitional shelter!
DESCRIPTION:Serving Dinner at The Crossing transitional shelter\,Thurs. Feb. 18th\, 4:45-7:15PM\, 5 volunteers are needed. (THIS EVENT IS NOW ON WAITING LIST STATUS.  IF YOU SIGN UP YOU WILL GET THE 2 REGISTRATION RESPONSES BUT WILL ONLY BE CONTACTED WITH THE DETAILS IF THERE IS A VOLUNTEER CANCELLATION!) Many of our volunteers request this event because they enjoy it and feel that it is such a worthwhile organization.  The Crossing is a transitional facility between the homeless shelter and getting back into a home.  The residents are working and saving up for a place to live.  It is drug & alcohol free.  Men\, women & children reside there.  It provides a great service as people work to get back on their feet. Our volunteers will help in the buffet line and may help with some of the meal bags for those who come back from work after dinner time.  After we serve dinner we will have an opportunity to eat as a group and also enjoy the meal.  We then do a few minutes of clean up and straightening in the dining room. They specifically contacted us to help as they are very short on volunteers!  This facility is also trying to keep everything safe for volunteers during the pandemic.  Each volunteer should wear a mask.  Gloves will be provided.  We will be behind the counter & plexi-glass when serving food and there are sinks for handwashing and sanitizer. During this pandemic time\, they are using disposable dishes and utensils and the residents then eat in their rooms instead of the dining room and they have an extra table in front of the food line to keep everyone 6 ft. apart.

This should be a great opportunity to help the community in the  Holiday Season as we end 2020!

SUMMARY:Serving Lunch at the Delores Project Women's Safehouse
DESCRIPTION:Serving Lunch at the Delores Project Women’s Safehouse\, Sat. Dec. 19th\,11AM-1PM 4 Volunteers are needed. The Delores Project has also made adjustments due to the pandemic to make us safe as well as the residents safe.  The kitchen and dining room are cleaned before and after each meal.  The dining room is arranged for social distancing and they only have a capacity of 32 and do regular COVID testing.  We will be wearing masks & will be provided disposable gloves.  Our group will just be in the kitchen.  The food is provided\, we just need to heat it up and arrange it for the residents as they come through.  We will be serving the food but will be in the kitchen area so will not be touching the residents.   So many of our volunteers have been requesting this event!  We have assisted this women’s safe shelter several times and they have asked us back as we have fantastic groups of volunteers.  This was a regular event for us due to the interest from our volunteers.  The shelter is in West Denver. SUMMARY:Habitat for Humanity ReStore
DESCRIPTION:Habitat for Humanity ReStore\, Sat. Dec. 12th\, 9:30AM-1PM\, 4 Volunteers are needed. We will be helping for our second time at the Littleton store on W. Quincy. This is their most active location.  Habitat for Humanity is being very pandemic conscious!  They will take our temperatures\, we all need to wear masks & gloves and we do socially distance.  We helped at their Denver ReStore recently and that went very well.  We normally are helping to stock donations onto the shelves\, straighten up or rearrange some of the areas\, and sometimes help with accepting incoming donations.  They have a new change in policy- ReStore volunteers will receive a 10% discount off of any purchases they wish to make on the day that they volunteer.  There is free parking and a lunch break.  Customers shop at the ReStore for new and gently used appliances\, furniture\, home remodeling supplies\, pictures\, and more at huge discounts.  These are important items needed in the Holiday Season especially as many families are shorter on funds this year than most. All profits support Habitat for Humanity’s home ownership program for low-income families.

SUMMARY:Bella Boutique Packing
DESCRIPTION:Bella Boutique Packing\n4 Volunteers are needed. \nMany of you may remember that we have helped the Bella Boutique previously as Personal Shoppers as they provide free Prom dresses\, shoes & accessories to low-income teens that are referred by educators\, coaches\, pastors\, other community leaders or those who qualify for a free lunch. This non profit allows teens to have a great prom experience which might they might not otherwise be able to do because of financial limitations and is the only 501(c)3 non profit to do so. Well\, this year has been different for everyone due to the pandemic and the 2020 proms weren’t held. The Bella Boutique is moving. \nWe will be helping at one of their shifts to help pack up the prom shop as they get ready to move back into storage as they await Prom 2021. Volunteers will be sorting donations and packing dresses\, shoes\, and jewelry into storage boxes in preparation for moving day. They really need our help as their inventory didn’t get depleted this year due to the lack of proms. We won’t be doing the actual moving\, just helping with the packing of these items which are clean and were ready for this year’s proms. \nThis is another service we can provide to a non profit which is aiming for social distancing. All volunteers should wear masks and comfortable clothes. The event is in Commerce City near I270/Vasquez. \n(As we are in the process of putting together our new web site you are not presently able to register for this event on the SVGD web site. If you wish to assist at this event please email: event@svgd.org . You will receive an email acknowledging your registration & then another the week prior to the event with all the details.)
