SUMMARY:Fundraising Beverage Booth at PrideFest-4th Shift
DESCRIPTION:Fundraising Beverage Booth at PrideFest-4th Shift\, Sun June 26\, 2-6:30PM\, 10-12 Volunteers are needed to run an alcohol booth. They are so excited to have the event in City Park since everything was closed the past two years due to the pandemic.  This is the first of two fundraising events that SVGD is doing this year.  In addition to helping the non-profit we will get paid money towards our fantastic organization so we can continue to operate.  SVGD needs funds annually in order to pay our insurance\, web hosting\, sponsor our MeetUp group for more volunteers\, etc.  We provide volunteers to approx. 60 non-profit events annually but do need to do a couple for us in order to continue providing this great service to the Metro Denver community.  We will be in charge of an alcohol booth at this fun event with a percentage of the profits going to our organization!  Since this is a big undertaking & a fundraiser\, non-SVGD members can also register.  We encourage our members to invite friends\, work associates\, and other non-profit associates to participate\, especially since we need so many volunteers for the 4 shifts.  If we don’t provide the number of volunteers to which we commit we don’t get paid!  When you sign up please let us know if you have other persons who could be volunteers and we will contact them or you can give us their info.  We helped at this event for two years prior to the pandemic and had such a fantastic time!  It’s a colorful event with lots going on! We’re in a three sided booth with a counter and window that looks out at the colorful action.  It’s like watching TV!  What fun!!  PrideFest is the largest annual fundraiser annually for the LGBTQ Community Center of Colorado (The Center)\, a non-profit that serves more than 47\,000 people annually.  Recognized as one of the top ten pride events in the country\, Denver’s PrideFest is a celebration of community\, heritage\, family and culture. More than 250\,000 people from Colorado and surrounding areas come out to enjoy the parade\, rally\, music\, entertainment\, food and much more. The Center plays a pivotal role to reduce harassment & discrimination and provides programs & resources needed for the LGBTQ community to live happy\, healthy\, & productive lives.   Please join us as we accomplish two objectives- supporting SVGD financially and supporting this non profit!

SUMMARY:Serving Dinner at the Denver Rescue Mission!
DESCRIPTION:Serving Dinner at the Denver Rescue Mission\, Wed. June 8th 4:30-6:30PM\, 5 Volunteers are needed (We’ve had a couple last-minute cancellations so could really use a couple people!!) We will be serving dinner to the homeless in their Downtown facility.  They do have two free parking areas for the volunteers.  For some of the guests\, the meals they serve at the Mission are the only source of nutrition they receive.  They say that “with each healthy meal comes strength to face the new challenges of each day.”  They serve over 600\,000 meals to the hungry each year.  We have helped them several times before. They do follow COVID guidelines to be sure it is a safe experience.  The volunteers truly find this to be a worthwhile cause & enjoy the experience!

SUMMARY:Serving Dinner at The Crossing transitional shelter!
DESCRIPTION:Serving Dinner at The Crossing transitional shelter\, Wed.\, May 25th\, 5-7PM\, 5 volunteers are needed. Many of our volunteers request this event because they enjoy it and feel that it is such a worthwhile organization.  The Crossing is a transitional facility between the homeless shelter and getting back into a home.  The residents are working and saving up for a place to live.  It is drug & alcohol free.  Men\, women & children reside there.  It provides a great service as people work to get back on their feet. Our volunteers will help in the buffet line and may help with some of the meal bags for those who come back from work after dinner time.  After we serve dinner we will have an opportunity to eat as a group and also enjoy the meal. This facility is trying to keep everything safe for volunteers.  Each volunteer should wear a mask.  Gloves will be provided. All volunteers must have been vaccinated!  We will be behind the counter & plexi-glass when serving food and there are sinks for handwashing and sanitizer.

SUMMARY:Bella Boutique Shoppers w/Low-Income Girls for Free Graduation & Prom Dresses!
DESCRIPTION:Shoppers with Low-Income Girls for Free Graduation & Prom Dresses at Bella Boutique\, Sat. May 21\, 9AM-12:30PM\, 5 Volunteers are needed. (THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED! BELLA BOUTIQUE DIDN’T HAVE ANY GIRLS SIGN UP FOR THIS DATE & IT WAS THEIR LAST DATE FOR THE SEASON. THEY APOLOGIZED &  SAID THEY HOPE TO SEE US DURING HOMECOMING SEASON IN THE FALL!) This event is back by request!  We helped them in March and everyone had such a great time & felt they were really making a difference by helping the low-income girls.  This time several of the girls will be getting their dresses to wear to graduation in addition to prom dresses. We will be Personal Shoppers who are each matched with a high school student.  Together each volunteer will help them shop the racks to find the perfect look for their event.  Once the student has selected a dress\, you may shop together for shoes and accessories.  Bella Boutique helps low-income students so that they do not look “low income” and are able to attend their prom/graduation\, which are such important events at their age.  We will receive training on the layout of the store so we know where everything is and will all wear black so the students are the focus while having the shopping experience.  This event will be near Evans/Monaco.  This is a very worthy non profit that stresses:  “Equity\, dignity\, inclusion — it matters!”

SUMMARY:Volunteers for Cherry Creek Sneak!
DESCRIPTION:Cherry Creek Sneak\, Sun. April 24th\, 8:00AM-Noon.  8 Volunteers are needed. We will be beer pourers at The Beer Garden for this event.  All volunteers will get a 2022 Cherry Creek Sneak t-shirt and will have oodles of fun while wearing it! This event is  such a well-known Denver tradition\, this is their 39th year and they are expecting 7\,500 participants.  We will be on 1st Avenue\, in the Cherry Creek area.  They also have a great after party with a costume contest\, music\, vendors\, etc.  Since we will be “beer pourers” we won’t have to be there super early like the volunteers for the registration etc. (6AM for them!)  The Cherry Creek Sneak offers run/walk courses for all levels\, including a 10-mile\, 5-mile\, and 3.1-mile (5k) There’s even a ½-mile Kids’ Fun Run for kids ages 8 and under\, and Diaper Dash for little ones in the Kids’ Fun Zone. The Sneak’s after-race festivities have turned into Denver’s biggest block party—post-race fun draws nearly 20\,000 racers\, friends\, and family for music\, cool vendors\, a costume contest\, and a Kids’ Fun Zone sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children. Proceeds benefit Food Bank of the Rockies\, a non-profit organization providing food and supplies to more than 800 hunger-relief programs.  This is a time when we can have a lot of fun while helping a very good cause!

SUMMARY:Donation Drive benefiting Habitat for Humanity!
DESCRIPTION:ReStore Donation Drive benefiting Habitat for Humanity\, Sat.\, April 9th\, 10:00AM-1:00PM\, 5 volunteers are needed.  (This event is now on Waiting List status.  If you sign up you will receive two automated responses but will only be contacted with all the details if we get a volunteer cancellation.)   Volunteers will be greeting & directing donors to navigate through the drop-off site in an organized fashion\, will be helping with the donations\, etc.  There is not a lot of heavy lifting as they do have some employees there who fill the trucks.  We helped them at three donation drives in 2021.  Our volunteers have done such a great job that we are now the only non profit that they ask to assist!  You will get a great Habitat for Humanity Tshirt.  This is a great way for people who don’t live near a ReStore to donate household items they don’t need to Habitat and get a tax credit for their donation.  They show up in a line of cars & trucks to make their donations.  We help them get through the line\, give them their donation slips\, help with some of the light-weight donations\, etc.  This event will be held at a church on University Blvd. in Highlands Ranch.

(This event is now on Waiting List status.  If you sign up you will receive an automated response but will only be contacted with all the details if we have a volunteers cancellation.) The Bella Boutique is back now that proms are happening again!  The last time we helped them was a couple years ago to pack up everything as they had to close.  We will be Personal Shoppers who are each matched with a high school student.  Together each volunteer will help them shop the racks to find the perfect look for their prom.  Once the student has selected a dress\, you may shop together for shoes and accessories.  Bella Boutique helps low-income students so that they do not look “low income” and are able to attend their prom\, which is such an important event at their age.  We will receive training on the layout of the store so we know where everything is and will all wear black so the students are the focus while having the shopping experience.  This event will be near Evans/Monaco.  This is a very worthy non profit that stresses:  “Equity\, dignity\, inclusion — it matters!”

SUMMARY:Serving Dinner at The Crossing transitional shelter!
DESCRIPTION:Serving Dinner at The Crossing transitional shelter\, Tues. Feb. 22\, 5-7PM\, 5 volunteers are needed. (This event is now on Waiting List status. If you sign up you willl receive automated responses but will only be contacted if we have a volunteer cancellation.) Many of our volunteers request this event because they enjoy it and feel that it is such a worthwhile organization. The last time we were there during this pandemic time\, they were using disposable dishes and utensils\, most the residents then ate in their rooms instead of the dining room and they had an extra table in front of the food line to keep everyone 6 ft. apart.

They do follow COVID guidelines to be sure it is a safe experience.  The volunteers truly find this to be a worthwhile experience. I will be great to help them during this Holiday Season!
