DESCRIPTION:Food Packaging for Food Pantry\, Sat. April 11\, 9:30-11:30AM\,  8 volunteers are needed. (This event is now on Waiting List status. This will be our first time assisting at this event.  The event will be set up by 9:30AM so we can package the food at 9:30AM that will be handed out starting at 11:30AM. This is our first time assisting at this event which is located at the Denver Islamic Food Pantry near Monaco/Warren in Denver. The pantry provides essential support to those facing food insecurity.  It is open by appointment for everyone to take what they need\, when they need it. They distribute items such as grains\, canned goods\, fruits & vegetables\, and often other household staples like diapers and wipes.

SUMMARY:Clothing Donation Sorting for Jeffco Action Center!
DESCRIPTION:Clothing Donation Sorting for Jeffco Action Center\, Sat.\,April 18th\, 8:45AM-11:45AM. 6 Volunteers are needed to help sort the donated clothing for the busy week ahead. (This event is now on Waiting List status.  If you sign up you will receive the automated responses but will only be contacted with the details if we get a volunteer cancellation.) We sort the clothing by size & type\, put the items on hangers\, and then they are hung in the store in the adjoining room. During the week people in need shop with volunteer shoppers in their donation “store” that is set up by sizes and types of clothing just like a regular store.  They are told how many items they can receive at the store and are given a time limit for their shopping. We have helped with this portion of their center’s activities before and really enjoyed the experience!! The Action Center’s mission is to provide an immediate response to basic human needs and promote pathways to self-sufficiency for Jefferson County residents and the homeless.  They are located in Lakewood.  I’m really happy that we are able to assist again as our volunteers always love this event!

The Foundation provides support for individuals facing limb-threatening conditions due to trauma\, tumor\, or infection.  We will be helping at their tables collecting cash or checks for their activities\, handing out prizes\, answering questions & providing support.  Volunteers will wear black and will have a free dinner. The event is at the Westminster Marriott.  This is their 40th Anniversary!  They will be having a champagne reception\, dinner\, and program.

SUMMARY:Food Market for Metro Caring
DESCRIPTION:Food Market for Metro Caring\, Wed. May 6th\, 5:30-8PM\, 6 Volunteers are needed. We will be helping in their attached food market which is like a grocery store for low-income people\, will be packing and organizing home-delivery food bag orders that are delivered (not by us) to community members who are unable to come to the facility many because of medical issues\, & will help with received food donations.  Metro Caring relieves hunger while also addressing the root causes of that hunger.  The event will be in Central Denver.  There is free parking nearby.  This worthy non profit which last year distributed over 2+ million pounds of nutritious food to hungry families & individuals while also providing education and tools to help participants improve their health and reach their potential.

SUMMARY:Postal Carriers- Stamp Out Hunger event!
DESCRIPTION:Postal Carriers-Stamp Out Hunger\, Sat. May 9\, 3:30-8:00PM\, 6 volunteers needed.The National Assn. of Letter Carriers is sponsoring an event throughout our Metro area where they will be picking up food donations along their carrier routes & will be bringing it back to their post offices.  We will be inside the docks at a Post Office (near Pecos/76th) to help unload and sort the food so trucks can take it back to the Action Center where it will be distributed to low-income families.   It is a very worthwhile event that will make quite a difference for low-income families!  After the event we are inviting the volunteers to have a social experience at a BBQ restaurant that is in the adjoining parking lot.  We helped at this event the  last three years and enjoyed both the event & the social!

DESCRIPTION:Colfax Marathon Fundraiser\, Sun. May 17\, 7:30AM-12:30PM (the first shift)\, 6 volunteers are needed.  We will be running the Beer Garden at City Park!  The Colfax Marathon is in its 18th year and is a 2-day event with 8 races.  It has unique courses incorporating the iconic landmarks of the Mile-High City.  We will be assisting on the second day when the races are ending and the racers need a drink!  Each year the Colfax Marathon partners with over 200 nonprofits\, who have collectively raised over $3 million in the past 6 years!  It should be a great time while helping several many worthy non profits!  You will receive a Colfax Marathon shirt and snacks during our shift.  They want me to tell them all the Tshirt sizes by April 15th so I’m trying to get most of our registrations by then.  Please sign up soon if you can help!!  They are even giving some funds to help support our non profit if we have all 12 volunteers that they need and cover both shifts.  We did the event last year and really enjoyed the experience!
